Matt Tanner spends his workweek driving the roads of Nevada, delivering and picking up EquipmentShare heavy machinery. When Friday afternoon rolls around, it’s not unusual for Tanner to park his rig, climb into his personal vehicle and get right back on the road for a weekend trip to the mountains with his wife.
“I’ve been told it takes a special person to drive that much and still want to do it after hours,” said Tanner, a delivery driver for EquipmentShare’s Las Vegas branch. “It doesn’t bother me. Even a place I’ve been past a thousand times, depending on the time of day, the scenery changes, and I see something new every time I go through.”
For someone who loves to drive and spend time with his family, Tanner gets the best of both at EquipmentShare.
Tanner grew up on a farm in Provo, Utah, and got a taste for driving trucks by hauling cattle. As a young adult, he worked as an over-the-road truck driver, but when he got married and started a family, Tanner wanted to spend more time at home. He made the switch to short-haul heavy equipment delivery 20 years ago and joined EquipmentShare in 2020.
“I like the freedom at EquipmentShare,” Tanner said. “The company doesn’t ask anything but to follow the rules of the road. Everybody in my branch trusts me and says, ‘Go get it done.’ They know I can do my thing in a safe and timely manner. Basically, everything is a half-day drive or less so I can be back at home at night. I think in the last three years, there have only been three or four planned overnight stays.”
EquipmentShare gives its delivery drivers free headsets and work phones, and it offers all of its full-time employees perks including:
- Competitive salary.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage.
- 401(k) and company match.
- Generous paid time off (PTO), plus company-paid holidays.
- 16 hours of paid volunteer time per year.
- Monthly family dinner night gift cards.
- Fitness membership stipends and wellness benefits.
“When I’m asked, I tell everybody that it’s an amazing place,” Tanner said. “There’s no stress. You go in, get your dispatches and go deliver or get your pickups done. We’re not being babysat. If something pops up and you need a day off, they understand that life happens. I really respect that it’s employee first, company second. It’s a great place.”
